Contraindications to injectable treatments: an honest list from a doctor

Injectable aesthetics is a medical procedure. That is why before each treatment I take a medical history and check for contraindications. It is not a formality: your safety and your result depend on it.
When a treatment is not done at all
- cancer (during treatment and afterwards - only with your oncologist's approval);
- severe autoimmune diseases in an active phase;
- blood clotting disorders;
- allergy to the product's ingredients;
- a tendency to keloid scars - for some treatments.
When you need to wait
- pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- a cold, flu or fever;
- cold sores, acne or other inflammation in the area;
- a flare-up of a chronic illness;
- a fresh tan, recent peels or laser in the area;
- your period - for some people it means extra sensitivity and bruising.
What to tell your doctor
- blood-thinning medicines: aspirin, anticoagulants, some supplements (omega-3, ginkgo);
- isotretinoin (Roaccutane) - now or in recent months;
- previous treatments in the area - especially fillers and threads;
- chronic conditions, allergies, recent surgery.
Why it matters
An honest conversation before the treatment is the best way to avoid complications. If a treatment is not right for you now, I will say so directly and suggest a safe alternative or a better time.
Not sure whether a treatment is safe for you? Book a consultation and we will go through your case.
