The eye area: dark circles, puffiness and fine lines - what helps

The skin around the eyes is several times thinner than on the cheeks, has few oil glands, and the muscles never rest - we blink thousands of times a day. That is why tiredness, lack of sleep and ageing show here first.
Where dark circles and puffiness come from
- thin skin that lets blood vessels show through;
- pigmentation - inherited or sun-related;
- fluid retention: salt, poor sleep, allergies, hormones;
- age-related volume loss and changes in the fat pads.
Important: persistent puffiness, especially in the morning, can be linked to health issues such as kidneys, thyroid or allergies. Sometimes a GP visit comes first.
Treatments that help
There are dedicated gentle products for the eye area that do not cause swelling or weigh down thin skin. I work with Rejuran i, AMI Eye, RRS Eye, Mastelli Plinest Eye, Jalupro Young Eye and Dermaheal Eye Bag Solution. Some work better on thin skin and lines, others on puffiness and colour. I choose after an examination, often as a course of 2-4 sessions.
What to expect
Firmer skin, softer fine lines and a more even tone. A deep tear trough is a different task and needs a careful approach, as swelling is easy to provoke in this area.
At home
- 7-8 hours of sleep and less salt in the evening;
- sunscreen and sunglasses;
- an eye cream with caffeine, peptides or retinoids (on medical advice);
- do not rub your eyes, remove make-up gently.
